It’s tool time!

Winter is show season for the construction industry. Technically, industrial tool and equipment manufacturers know no seasons, yet major trade shows still influence product launch cycles. Here are some of the most interesting new products we’ve seen so far this season.

Mighty Fein GRIT GI
Want to do it all with one machine? This modular metal sanding and grinding system converts in minutes from rough to finish sander and from stock removal, rotary and bore sanding to deburring and surface sanding applications with ease. See it and believe it. Item 153

Retraction stop
Greenlee has added a retraction stop feature to all its battery-powered and corded 12-ton crimping and multifunction tools. The retraction stop feature allows the operator to stop the ram retraction at any point in the retract cycle and start the next crimp cycle at the point where the ram was stopped. Item 154

Superior arc
Miller Electric’s new Millermatic Passport Plus all-in-one MIG welder provides a superior arc in an ultra portable and lightweight 45-pound package. Get a superior arc on mild and stainless steel and 18 gauge through 1/4-inch aluminum. Item 155

Got fumes?
Donaldson Company’s improved Ex-Arm fume extraction arm has external adjustment controls and is virtually maintenance-free. It comes standard on all Torit extractors, rotates 360 degrees, positions easily and has several hood options. Item 156

Pressing issues
RIDGID’s new ProPress Rings allow users to press connections in less accessible areas than with other existing jaw sets. They are available in six sizes: 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2 and 2 inches. They rotate 180 degrees for better access. Item 157

Eliminate harmful dust
The 450-watt Metabo BHE 20 IDR rotary hammer with integrated dust reduction (IDR) technology contains the harmful dust particles emitted when drilling holes in masonry. Ideal for overhead applications, IDR protects both the operator and the tool itself. Item 158

Swivel base mag drill
Hougen’s 10.5-amp, two-speed HMD904S Swivel Base Portable Magnetic Drill can pivot on axis for up to a 1 1/8-inch side to side arc and up to 1 3/8 inches of front to back movement. Drill holes up to 2 inches in diameter with annular cutters. Item 159

Slice through four-inch tool steel

The CLM 350 Semi-automatic Circular Cold Saw from Scotchman Industries features a rigid column design that quickly cuts up to four-inch solid tool steel and is rugged enough for tougher alloys and heavy wall tubes. Item 160

More power, portable
Landa’s MHC series offers six models, powered by Honda or Subaru-Robin engines, range from 2.7 to 3.5 GPM, with pressures from 2400 to 3500 PSI. Three models feature both electric and recoil start. Item 161

One tough cordless concrete hammer
The Panasonic EY7880LN2S is a 28.8-volt 3/4-inch, 2-speed SDS-plus rotary hammer for continuous drilling in concrete, brick and block — without blow outs. Its new motor and computer-designed air flow system reduces heat during continuous use. Item 162

Cost reducing compressed air dryers
Sullair’s SRC Refrigerated Cycling Compressed Air Dryers are available in 10 models from 150 to 1,000 scfm. Their wide range of operating and performance features reduce costs by matching power consumption to actual operating conditions. Item 163
