GINNY
WEBSTER
MRO buyer,
Grove Gear/Regal-Beloit
Without a doubt, Ginny Webster has the
most diverse resume of any member of the first two MRO All-Pro Teams.
During her 17-year tenure at Grove Gear (a manufacturer of gear
drives), Webster has worked in the machine shop, shipping, inside
sales, customer service, production control and, finally, purchasing.
Company general manager Mike Manna
applauds this jack-of-all-trades and is candid about the contributions
Webster has made since shifting to purchasing in 1998.
"She is the single-biggest factor
in our reduced MRO costs," Manna says. "She shops
incessantly, creating savings opportunities at least once a week.
Whether it’s changing order quantities or specifications,
standardizing, or simply negotiating better prices, she works to
always get the most cost-effective solution."
Manna says Webster saved the company 5
percent on its MRO costs in each of the past two years.
Says Webster: "I always kid them
that I can’t believe they pay me to shop. Is there a better job for
a woman? But seriously, being involved in all aspects of the company,
I know how things flow through the system."
