Class 4 maintenance associate,
Channellock Inc.,
Meadville, Pa.

A talented welder, Mike has done a lot of fabricating for Channellock in his 14 years on the job, notably in the area of fitting out new machines when they are installed in the Meadville plant.

One recent installation of a large heat treating machine required Mike to do all the fabricating for the railings, all the pipe welding and connections to the machine and fabricating guard rails and chain guards for the entire unit; a two and one-half month job.

Mike’s other responsibilities have included fabricating parts for and maintaining “Big Blue,” a massive PLC machine that applies hand grip material to Channellock pliers and other tools.

Mike has also been teamed with younger maintenance associates to jointly train with them in the electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC and general skills required to perform maintenance on the various equipment and systems Channellock employs. The company regularly pairs senior and younger workers in training programs to ensure younger workers the benefit of their more seasoned counterparts and mentors. In this area, too, Mike shines, and as a result, he is well respected on the floor.

“The quality of Mike’s work shows his dedication to doing his best for Channellock and the pride he takes in a job well done,” notes Joan Sweeney, director of corporate development.

She also nominated him for Channellock’s annual Falcon Awards, which recognize employees not only for exceptional work inside the plant but for community involvement outside the factory as well. Mike regularly uses his maintenance and welding skills to help out in the community. Some of these jobs have included building deer stands, trailers, wiring barns and running water lines.

Mike is also a past Channellock softball team coach and has coached Little League for 10 years.
