Maggie Hellner
Shipping department and
material handling leader,
Senninger Irrigation Inc.,
Orlando, Fla.
Maggie began working for Senninger Irrigation in
1984. She initially worked as an assembly worker, then moved up to
injection molding machine trainer. Today she is the company’s
shipping and material handling lead, a position that continually tests
her multi-tasking skills. She coordinates with domestic and
international representatives, communicates with the production
departments, prepares shipments and arranges pick ups with various
freight carriers.
Maggie is also responsible for the material
handling of all parts, whether they are molded in-house or received on
the shipping dock. And, since most orders are assembled and shipped
the same day they are received, Maggie must think on her feet.
Maggie is also a member of Senninger’s safety
committee and was a key member of both of Senninger’s Kaizen teams
to date.
Maggie also serves as back-up when the production
supervisor is off. She backs-up Customer Service when they are
short-handed, too.
Where Maggie truly goes the extra mile is her
initiative. She works closely with her purchasing manager to review
cost-saving options and conducts her own independent cost studies. In
one recent project, she tracked and analyzed, over several months, the
rates charged by the company’s main carrier against those of
competing carriers. Her study led to savings for Senninger.
“We have many long-time employees who are
conscientious about their work,” says Carol Kennedy, vice president
of operations. “But Maggie stands out. Her quality work, skills,
ideas and leadership are impressive, but what really makes her stand
out is her spirit. I’m impressed when people take the initiative to
do what she does without being asked. She sees how things work and
finds ways to make them better.”
