Pat
Bright
Stockroom attendant
Stanadyne Corp.
Washington, NC
Stanadyne employs roughly 1,800 people and operates facilities in
North Carolina, Connecticut, France, Italy, India and the United
Kingdom. The company produces high-quality diesel fuel system
components including fuel injectors, pumps, filters and additives.
For most of her 28 years with Stanadyne, Pat Bright has been
responsible for the plant’s MRO parts and tool crib, controlling the
flow of more than 6,000 parts, from large motors to office supplies.
She is supported by a purchasing agent and temporary clerks who work
with her to handle the volume.
“Pat works plant-wide,” says Dave Coombs, materials purchasing
manager. “This is one of our three large manufacturing plants in the
U.S. and Pat is responsible for crib stocking and transactions for
the entire facility – from maintenance items, chemicals and tools to
spare parts and safety products.
“She has a consistent finger on the button and is always conscious
of ways to do things better,” he adds. “If she sees a product that
is similar to something else, she’ll make a recommendation that we
try and consolidate those SKUs if we can.”
She is also cross-trained in a variety of areas, largely by her own
initiative, Coombs says. If an operator calls in sick, she often
steps up and runs a tow motor for receiving.
“She knows the business inside and out and is a great resource,” he
concludes. “We’re always going to her for data.”
